Harbor County, MI

We are excited to welcome you to Harbor Country, Michigan, which is just an hour drive from where Matt grew up!

This area of the “Mitt” is a destination for Lake Life (think adventures free of salt or sharks!).  It is also home to many wineries, breweries and distilleries, each with its own unique charm.  One of the most popular is Journeyman Distillery, which has a rich history going back to the 1800’s as a factory producing buggy whips and corsets.

So pack a bag, grab a glass and head “North” to help celebrate with us!

Matt’s Top Ten Must See Or Do

  1. Froehlich’s Kitchen & Pantry, main street (Elm St.) of Three Oaks.

    • You’ll need to visit to find out why it’s my number 1 on the list! Great unique one stop shop/gift store that has even has a nice bar in it!

  2. New Buffalo Beach Public Beach, East on Whititaker St. New Buffalo.

    • Take a picture of the Lighthouse and get some sand between your toes!

  3. Gallien River County Park, Three minutes drive north of New Buffalo.

    • A very short and easy boardwalk walk through the woods to the “watch tower” that has a pretty view over the Gallien River.

  4. Four Winds Casino, 10 minute drive from Three Oaks or six minute drive from New Buffalo.

    • A good place to double or donate your money.

  5. Viola Cafe, Main street (Elm st.) Three Oaks

    • Great local breakfast and or lunch spot.

  6. Best Local Michigan Winery St. Julian, Less then a 10 minute drive from NB or TO.

    • A Southwest Michigan favorite. (Bonus Round Barn Winery 20 minutes away from NB or TO)

  7. Oinks Dutch Treat, (Ice cream!) New Buffalo near Whititaker St. on Hwy 12.

    • You can’t leave with checking out this crazy pig themed ice cream shop, where you can really pig out!

  8. Breweries of course…

    • Beer Church (yep, with holy pizza in main NB), Ghost Isle (scary good w/food in main NB), and my favorite Haymarket ( Beer, wood fire pizza, and bonfire pits! 17 minutes North of NB).

  9. The Stray Dog Bar and Grill (New Buffalo on Whititaker St.)

    • Great patio with better food overlooking the NB marina and Lake Michigan. Layla approved, she gives it four paws!

  10. Nelson’s Saloon, main street (Elm St.) Three Oaks.

    • Can’t be my top ten list without including a dive bar (I’d eat elsewhere but they have food too).

BONUS: Warren Dunes, Swayer Michigan 17 minutes from New Buffalo and 14 from Three Oaks.

    • State park worth the price of admission ($10 per car) and the effort it’ll take to climb the steep dunes, but it was a lot easier to do when I was back in High School!
